DC Relaunch: Batgirl #1
Well, it looks like there will be a new Batgirl #1 amongst the 52 relaunched books in September.
What will be different this time is that the book will star Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.
Currently taking the role of Oracle, Barbara Gordon lost the use of her legs in Killing Joke, but became the Birds Of Prey’s eye in the sky, and was handled defly in that title. There had been some possibility that control over her lower body may be slowly returning.
But who needs to go through several years of physical therapy, when you can get a relaunch! With a rejuvenated Barbara Gordon back in the Batgirl identity with a flick of a switch!

I think that sound you just heard was Sue over at DC Women Kicking Ass whooping and punching the air.
(Art by Kevin West.)

In a good way or a bad way? I certainly feel like punching something but I’m not thinking air.

So where does that leave Steph?

this better be misinformation

Guys, someone help. I get on tumblr after two days and all I see is news about Babs coming back as Batgirl? Please tell me Steph will still be around. Anyone?

Just another in a long line of things I’m confused about.

Argh I knew the relaunches would cause some “wtf-decision making.”

I really like this photo I snapped, especially for the fact that the dude who gets paid to take them was doing a terrible job. “Stand there,” click. No countdown or charm, and when he took pictures with our cameras he took even worse ones, which makes sense, he wants you to think the staff’s cameras are amazing, not to mention they don’t get commission so why should they care about their job.

With summer vacation just around the corner, are you making plans to travel sometime soon? When it come to great cities to visit, there are more than a few amazing spots that routinely get overlooked. Consider these hidden gems of the American West, chosen by Katie Tamony, editor-in-chief of Sunset, the magazine of Western living.
Pictured above: “L.A.’s neighbor, Long Beach used to be thought of as a gritty port city filled with retirees and tourists visiting the Queen Mary. Now it’s vibrant,” Tamony says.

Quinoa, a grain-like superfood, has become so popular in Western markets that Bolivians can no longer afford to eat it. Instead, they’re turning to cheap, processed foods, raising concerns about malnutrition in a poor country where it has long been a problem. For centuries Bolivians lived off quinoa, and it was “little more than a curiosity outside the Andes.” But it has recently caught on in wealthier countries as a healthy alternative to grains, becoming a staple at places like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. With demand soaring, prices have nearly tripled over the past five years. That’s great for Bolivian farmers. But it means many Bolivians can no longer afford what has long been a healthy staple of their diet. Quinoa consumption in Bolivia has dropped by 34 percent in five years. “The shift offers a glimpse into the consequences of rising global food prices and changing eating habits in both prosperous and developing nations,’ say Simon Romaro and Sara Shahriari in The New York Times.
